Joshua’s Training

Maybe you already know the story of Joshua. Nevertheless, it’s one worth repeating. Not only in writing, but also in your own life.

Joshua served as the primary aide to Moses. For at least 40 years.

Wandering around behind him in the desert, he watched his boss & learned from him. What Moses experienced with God made Joshua want to experience with God, too.

In those days, Moses would meet with God in a tent. Joshua would wait outside the tent, which was as close as he was allowed to get at that point.

But even after Moses left the tent, Joshua lingered there. Looking for more.

Moses used to take the Tent & set it up outside the camp, some distance away. He called it the Tent of Meeting. Anyone who sought God would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.

When Moses would go to the Tent, all the people would stand at attention; each man would take his position at the entrance to his tent with his eyes on Moses until he entered the Tent; whenever Moses entered the Tent, the Pillar of Cloud descended to the entrance to the Tent & God spoke with Moses.

All the people would see the Pillar of Cloud at the entrance to the Tent, stand at attention, & then bow down in worship, each man at the entrance to his tent.

And God spoke with Moses face-to-face …

Just as neighbors speak to one another. When he would return to the camp, his attendant, the young man Joshua, stayed—he didn’t leave the Tent. EXODUS 33:9-11

Joshua was in Training to fulfill his destiny.

Lingering turned out to be Joshua’s greatest life strategy.
Because he learned to listen for God’s voice there.
And you can, too!

… to be continued.
