Change Your Prayers

Christians pray. Not as often as they could. Probably because they haven’t received the answers they want. Nonetheless, God does answer prayers. He’s just picky about which ones.

Sometimes our prayers are just our whining and complaining. About how everyone else is making our life miserable. Our words are too often filled with negativity and despair. It’s time to change that. Instead …

Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t — not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again. James 5:16-18

Where is your victory today?

Joshua listened to The Lord. He learned how to listen for His Voice as he served under Moses. And he also learned obedience. So after Moses died, Joshua became their leader with a Really Big Promise from The Lord.

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. JOSHUA 1:5-6

First, while serving as Moses’ aide, Joshua learned to occupy his own inner territory fully and bring it under obedience to the will of God. Then he was able to take New Territory. The Land The Lord had promised the Israelites.

What does Joshua’s story mean for you?

You can never be taken from The Father. But there is someone who has been working steadily to make sure you’re totally ineffective in The Kingdom. It’s time we put a stop to his lies. How?

  • First, occupy what you have. Fill it with goodness and excellence.
  • Then pray about New Territory. Watch for open doors. There will be many.

No Guesswork Involved

As a teenager, I thought becoming an adult would mean I’d finally arrived, and I could have the life I wanted. But my life hasn’t turned out the way I thought it would. Has your life turned out the way you’d dreamed it would? If you’re like me, you often wonder what you should be doing. During times of stress. During times of conflict. During times of boredom. During times of change.

I’m learning that I don’t need to resort to guesswork. And neither do you, my friend. The Holy Spirit is more than happy to lead us along the path The Lord has laid out before us. Here’s how the relationship works:

Your ears will hear sweet words behind you: “Go this way. There is your path; this is how you should go” whenever you must decide whether to turn to the right or the left.ISAIAH 30:21, THE VOICE

My sheep respond as they hear My voice; I know them intimately, and they follow Me. JOHN 10:27, THE VOICE

If you don’t have all the wisdom needed for this journey, then all you have to do is ask God for it; and God will grant all that you need. He gives lavishly and never scolds you for asking. JAMES 1:5, THE VOICE
