Not Just Any Dream

My favorite song in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical is Any Dream Will Do. It’s a very catchy and memorable tune. But is he right about that? Will just any dream do?

Joseph believed His Dream because he believed God.
And because it was a really big, really Impossible Dream.

His brothers hated him and sold him into slavery.
But God had shown Joseph that he would one day be above them.

And no matter how far from His Dream reality took him,
Joseph kept believing in God’s dream for his life.

I once believed that our dreams should be
Reasonable. Reachable. Doable.

Then I thought that we should dream Big Dreams
because they cost the same as small dreams.
“They both cost us nothing,” I reasoned.

[callout]When suddenly I realized that my old beliefs and thoughts were both incorrect.[/callout]

Because small, reasonable dreams cost us a lot.
They keep us from becoming all that God
has planned for us to be.

So what’s your dream, Friend?

“Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Something for Someone

God creates

In The Beginning, God creates the Heavens and the Earth – from Nothing. You and I can’t imagine Nothing. For us, there has always been Something. Scientists claim they’ve figured out how to make Something out of Nothing. However, they need a lot of special equipment to get it done.

God doesn’t need any special equipment. He just says, “Let there be.” And there is!

For instance, He says, “Let there be light.” And suddenly there is … both light and darkness. That is, Day and Night. Day One.

He’s pleased with His work.

On Day Two, His “Let there be” separates Sky from Water.

So far, so good. That’s how He sees it.

On Day Three, He really gets busy with Land and Seas, and Plants and Trees. All come into being at the sound of His voice. And He sees again that it’s all good.

Day Four brings Sun, Moon, and Stars. So far, still good. He’s setting the stage for Romance now, don’t you think?

Day Five comes with Sea Creatures and Winged Birds. All good, of course. But this time, the Lord gives a blessing and instructions to what He has created.

God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” ~ Genesis 1:22

On Day Six He creates Land Animals. Of course, He saves His Best for last. He creates Man and Woman in His Image – to rule over the Fish and the Birds, the Animals and the Creepy Crawlers. And He gives them Plenty to eat.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky
and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” ~ Genesis 1:28

Are you beginning to see a pattern here? The Lord blesses us, commands fruitfulness, and expects us to increase. Plus, He gives man dominion over Creation. All of Creation!

True Love Enjoys Being a Blessing

Love Enjoys Being a BlessingTrue love enjoys being a blessing. However, envy can get in the way if we let it. We often use jealousy and envy interchangeably. However, they are not the same.

Jealousy is a three-person word. We feel it when something we already possess (usually a special relationship) is threatened by a third person. God is described as jealous.

Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14

Envy is a two-person word. It’s a feeling of discontent and ill will because of another’s advantages, possessions, and so on. Envy is the resentful dislike of another who has something that one desires.

A heart at peace gives life to the body,
but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:30

Resentful dislike (contempt) has no place in love.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

True love enjoys being a blessing & refuses to be envious when blessing comes to someone else.
