Emotional Hijacking

It goes like this: You’re a grown up. You even feel grown up. You have your life under control.

airplane-wooshThen suddenly something triggers.
And you’re surprised by your own emotions.

“Who said that?” you wonder.
What in the world just happened?

You’ve just been hijacked by your amygdalae.
It happens to all of us.

Think of it as an opportunity to be further refined.
The Lord keeps refining us in areas we
don’t even know we need refining.
But He knows. And He loves.

So forgive one another
… and forgive yourself.

As we are learning to walk out and live in our Newness of Life in Christ, we will need to let go of some stuff. And a hijacking means the Holy Spirit just brought some more dross to the top so He can help you get rid of it.

He wants you to give Him everything that made up the old you.
So he can fill you up with everything that is Him.
How cool is that?

The Apostle Paul put it this way:

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

“How does that work?” you ask.
