Choose Your Kingdom

Who’s your master? We are creatures, and we are created to serve. So who’s it gonna be for you? Joshua presented your choices this way:

crown“Now fear The Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve The Lord. But if serving The Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the The Lord.” (Joshua 24:14-15)

So Whom are you choosing to believe?

I remember the day – 18 months ago, give or take – when I received some distressing news, and I got angry. Really, really angry. In fact, I don’t know when I’ve been angrier.

Preliminary bottom line: I was angry at the enemy for harrassing Christian men and women who love one another, and I was more than ready to take him on … single-handedly!

I cried out to the Lord, “Just let me at him!”

The Lord responded with a smile … and a chuckle, too, I think.
Then He reminded me of His Great and Perfect Love.

“You wanna fight the enemy?
Agree with Me. I’ve got you covered.”

Yes, I’m covered by the Precious Blood of Jesus, and so are you. Jesus chose to die for our sins. Then He descended into Hell and took Captivity captive. He won our victory on the Cross.

It’s a done deal.

The Deciding Vote

You always cast the deciding vote. As I mentioned in a previous  post, we all experience the hijacking of our emotions at one time or another. It happens so suddenly, that we can feel out of control. Even so, we still have a choice to make.

Two voices are trying to influence your vote.

One voice comes from the atmosphere around you.
The Other comes from deep within you.

One voice is loud, full of hatred, and fills the atmosphere around you. It belongs to the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. That voice is out to kill, steal, and destroy. It wants you to default, doubt, and derail.

The Other is that still small Voice deep within you. That voice is filled with love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It is the Holy Spirit, Who wants you to reset, refocus, and be restored.

For more on this, you’ll want to read about the purpose of unpleasant feelings.

Emotional Hijacking

It goes like this: You’re a grown up. You even feel grown up. You have your life under control.

airplane-wooshThen suddenly something triggers.
And you’re surprised by your own emotions.

“Who said that?” you wonder.
What in the world just happened?

You’ve just been hijacked by your amygdalae.
It happens to all of us.

Think of it as an opportunity to be further refined.
The Lord keeps refining us in areas we
don’t even know we need refining.
But He knows. And He loves.

So forgive one another
… and forgive yourself.

As we are learning to walk out and live in our Newness of Life in Christ, we will need to let go of some stuff. And a hijacking means the Holy Spirit just brought some more dross to the top so He can help you get rid of it.

He wants you to give Him everything that made up the old you.
So he can fill you up with everything that is Him.
How cool is that?

The Apostle Paul put it this way:

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

“How does that work?” you ask.
